Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions or queries please email contact us. These are a few questions frequently asked by Muslim consumers.

Q. Is there any animal or alcohol content in Nando’s sauces?

A. No. absolutely not. All Nandos’ s sauces are water or vinegar based. Furthermore, tests by Independent Food Technologists have confirmed that no alcohol or animal derivatives are used in any Nando’s spices or sauces. Finally, a full disclosure of ingredients has been made to the NIHT by Nando’s.

Q. (Email sent to Nando’s)

Hello, please forward this to Brian Sacks. As a muslim, I need to know that your chickens are obtained from a Halaal source.
Info:Kindly be advised that:
SANHA has not given approval to any of the Nando's Stores even those that are Muslim owned. It should be born in mind that Nando's operate on a central "Kitchen system" and even the Muslim stores receive their chickens already marinated from central chicken.
At a recent meeting with a Nando's Head Office's, they made it quite clear that they were not interested in working with SANHA. SANHA cannot give any assurances for their products.

A. With reference to the Nando’s Stores certified Halaal by the National Independent Halaal Trust (NIHT), please be advised that the said stores as per our policy guidelines are all Muslim Owned Stores and fully Halaal compliant.

Chickens supplied to Nando’s are all Halaal. In terms of all other ingredients of marinades and sauces etc., these have all been thoroughly investigated and are totally Halaal. An adequate number of Muslim Staff are employed in relevant positions to oversee the entire Halaal programme.

The fact that SANHA states that they do not give any approval to any Nando’s Store is of no consequence to the Muslim Ummah. The NIHT, an Islamic Body of recognised and responsible Ulama have undertaken the task of certifying the stores mentioned as Halaal.

Regarding the issue of Nando’s not being interested in working with SANHA, that is the prerogative of Nando’s. From a Shar’ee point of view this in no way prejudices the Hillat (permissibility for Muslim consumption) of Nando’s products.

Interestingly, nowhere in the statement by Sanha is the word "Haraam" or "doubtful" being used. The attitude of Sanha smacks of nothing but sour grapes, hypocrisy and Fitnah-mongering.
